All EB Video games retailers in New Zealand will shut by the top of the month following 'multi-million greenback' losses

EB Video games will shut all 38 of its New Zealand retailers by the top of January following a “multimillion-dollar loss through the 2024 fiscal 12 months”. In an inside memo seen by RNZ, the retailer’s New Zealand managing director, Shane Stockwell, informed staff the choice was made after “vital and repeated efforts to show the enterprise round”.

EB Video games Australia launched in 1997 as Electronics Boutique. Its first New Zealand outlet opened in Auckland in 2000, and in 2002, Electronics Boutique rebranded globally to EB Video games. GameStop acquired the corporate in 2005 for $1.44 billion, and it has been owned by the Texas-based company ever since.
