This outdated Kindle mannequin could possibly be getting a free improve quickly

When Amazon launched its new Kindle Scribe fashions final yr, two options that basically stood out had been the redesigned residence display and the brand new cloud storage integrations that allow you to join your Scribe on to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.

Nonetheless, one key query stays unanswered about these options: will house owners of the 2022 or 2024 Kindle Scribe additionally obtain the brand new residence display and cloud integrations through a software program replace? Or will they continue to be unique to the 2025 fashions, together with the brand new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft?

Sadly, Amazon has not but confirmed whether or not the brand new residence display or cloud integrations shall be rolled out to older fashions. However there’s no less than a motive to be optimistic that it’s going to.

In line with a report from Good E-Reader, Amazon has just lately begun emailing house owners of the first-generation (2022) Kindle Scribe within the EU, notifying them of a serious software program replace coming quickly that can repair bugs and add new options to their system.

The complete electronic mail reads (translated from French to English): “Good day, Amazon frequently updates the inner software program of its gadgets to enhance your expertise. Your Kindle’s working system and different pre-installed software program robotically obtain updates through the web. We wish to inform you {that a} new replace shall be obtainable in your Kindle. This replace will improve safety and efficiency, embody bug fixes, and introduce new options. On this replace, the software program shall be upgraded from model 5.19.1 to five.19.2 or later. What this Kindle Scribe replace consists of is unclear

There is no phrase on whether or not it’s going to come to the 2024 Scribe both

Whereas the e-mail Amazon is sending to 2022 Kindle Scribe house owners is encouraging, it is nonetheless fairly gentle on specifics. The corporate says the replace will introduce “new options,” however does not specify what they’re. It could possibly be the brand new residence display design and cloud integrations discovered on the 2025 Scribe fashions, however that is not confirmed.

In line with studies on Reddit, it looks like 2022 Kindle Scribe house owners in France acquired the e-mail, however there is no such thing as a phrase on 2024 Scribe house owners receiving it, or customers within the US. It is laborious to think about Amazon giving the older 2022 Scribe a serious replace whereas leaving the 2024 model out — or limiting it to 1 area — so it will be attention-grabbing to see how this performs out as soon as the replace really releases.

As for timing, primarily based on the e-mail Amazon is sending out, it sounds just like the replace might arrive any day now.

The Kindle Scribe is for extra than simply studying

Amazon has now launched three generations of Kindle Scribes

Amazon launched its first-generation Kindle Scribe in 2022, that includes a ten.2-inch glare-free E Ink show designed for note-taking, journaling, and enhancing PDFs. Because of its bigger display, it is also properly suited to studying textbooks and encyclopedias. After all, it is a Kindle, so you possibly can learn numerous books on it as properly. In 2024, Amazon refreshed the Kindle Scribe for the primary time, introducing a extra paper-like display and an improved stylus.

In late 2025, Amazon refreshed the Kindle Scribe with a serious overhaul, fully altering the design by lowering bezel measurement and weight, making it extra like an iPad. It additionally launched the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, the first-ever Scribe with a colour display.

Amazon’s newest Kindle Scribe begins at $500, and a less expensive mannequin and not using a frontlight is coming quickly for $420. That stated, the 2024 Kindle Scribe is less expensive, and you may get one for as little as $250 for those who go for a Like-New mannequin. With that in thoughts, I believe it is fully comprehensible that anybody shopping for them, or anybody who already has one, hopes that among the latest options on the 2025 Scribe will trickle all the way down to the older fashions, that are cheaper and extra accessible.
