The iPhone 16e launched with out MagSafe assist, which meant no snap-on wallets, no magnetic charging pucks locking into place, and no entry to the rising ecosystem of MagSafe equipment that each different trendy iPhone supported. It was a puzzling omission that made the 16e really feel prefer it belonged to a distinct product household completely.

The 17e fixes that. Full iPhone 17e MagSafe assist is right here, full with Qi2 wi-fi charging at 15W. That’s double the 7.5W ceiling the 16e topped out at, and it means the inexpensive iPhone now works with the identical chargers and equipment as the remainder of Apple’s present lineup.

2. Storage doubles in a single day

Apple shipped the iPhone 16e with 128GB of base storage in 2025. 3. The modem will get an actual improve

Apple’s in-house modem journey has been one of many extra fascinating subplots within the smartphone world. The C1 chip contained in the iPhone 16e was the corporate’s first crack at changing Qualcomm’s silicon, and whereas it labored, impartial testing confirmed it carried out equally to Qualcomm in most markets, although gaps appeared on superior 5G standalone networks.

The C1X modem within the 17e represents Apple’s second technology, and the leap is critical. Apple says it’s as much as 2x quicker than the unique C1 on mobile connections, and it additionally makes use of 30 p.c much less power than the modem in iPhone 16 Professional. On the video aspect, the 17e information 4K Dolby Imaginative and prescient at 60 frames per second, captures spatial audio, and contains Apple’s wind noise discount expertise. Commonplace iPhones have had these capabilities because the iPhone 16, however the 16e’s extra restricted digicam system didn’t take full benefit of them. Getting the whole package deal at $599 with optical-quality telephoto on prime is a stable step ahead.

It additionally offers the 17e the identical clear aspect profile as Apple’s dearer fashions, which is the kind of element that registers while you’re holding the telephone all through the day.
