One other day, one other freebie. There’s been a new free sport on the Epic Video games Retailer every day since December 18 for the vacations, and at present’s deal is a four-in-one: the Trine Basic Assortment. Not solely that, however every sport within the assortment has been up to date so a cross-platform co-op sport between a Steam consumer and an Epic Video games Retailer consumer is rather less finicky.
Now, once you boot up Trine 1 by way of 4 on Steam, you may be prompted to optionally hyperlink your Steam and Epic accounts for cross-platform pal invitations and achievement progress. The collection’ headlining function is its three-player co-op, so this could make enjoying with anybody who simply bought the video games as a result of this promotion simpler.
If you have not performed Trine, it is a The Misplaced Vikings-style puzzle platformer with three characters: a bumbling however burly knight, a thief with grappling hooks and a bow, and a wizard who can generate cubes and platformers. In solo play, you’ll be able to solely management one character at a time, however in multiplayer, all three characters are on display screen without delay. It will get chaotic rapidly, however that is the enjoyable bit; the puzzles are good, however not often main head scratchers.
They have been decently well-liked on Steam once they first hit the scene, and whereas they are not masterpieces, they’re unfailingly lighthearted, breezy, and enjoyable. The Trine collection is the workhorse of the puzzle platformer: there is a new one out each few years and the standard has remained admirably constant (even contemplating the 3D black sheep, Trine 3). This bundle would not embody the newest entry, Trine 5, however there’s round two dozen hours of puzzling packed into the primary 4 entries.
Each point out of Trine brings up some heat and fuzzy emotions for me, because it was one of many earlier non-Valve video games I performed on Steam again within the day. It helped enamor me with the platformer as a younger’un and, partially, set me on this path the place I squawk about videogames for a residing, so I will at all times sing its praises for that.
Trine Basic Assortment is offered free of charge till December 31 on the Epic Video games Retailer.
