After 6 years my Floor Go 2 remains to be the most effective pill I’ve ever owned
I really like compact tablets. I’ve at all times had a choice for slabs that I can manipulate simply with the hand, versus the unwieldier laptop-sized fashions out in the marketplace. That is why, again in 2018, I used to be enamored by Microsoft’s then-new Floor Go line.
I lastly bought myself a Floor Go in 2020, scooping up the new-and-improved second-generation mannequin with thinner bezels and higher efficiency metrics. What I did not know again then was that I would nonetheless be a devoted Floor Go 2 consumer over six years later in 2026.
Listed below are three explanation why, regardless of now being an antiquated gadget by fashionable tech requirements, I nonetheless swear by my Floor Go 2 all these years later. It isn’t essentially the most technologically superior gadget in my arsenal, but it surely’s the one I appear to at all times come again to time and time once more.
Compact tablets are the most effective tablets
Merely put, the Floor Go 2 is the right dimension. It is 10.5-inch display screen is massive sufficient for leisure and primary productiveness functions, and its casing is sufficiently small to hold round in all places with me. There’s one thing extremely lovable in regards to the Floor Go 2’s footprint, and it compels me to select it up and use it as a pill with out its devoted keyboard cowl accent on a regular basis. Plus, once I do need a greater canvas to work with, I can at all times dock the pill through an exterior monitor, including flexibility into the combo.
The newer 12-inch Floor Professional is the closest equal to the Floor Go line we have now in Microsoft’s fashionable {hardware} portfolio, and whereas I do love that Floor mannequin as properly, its barely bigger dimension and elevated weight are sufficient to really feel like a downgrade when in comparison with my handy-dandy Floor Go 2. Ideally, I do want we would see both a modernized ARM-based Floor Go sooner or later, or, alternatively, a Go-sized Floor Professional mannequin. In the meanwhile, the 12-inch Floor Professional merely does not scratch that compact pill itch of mine fairly sufficient.
It has all of the ports I need
USB-C, Floor Join, and extra
Now, I do know what you are considering: the Floor Go 2 is not precisely a powerhouse on the subject of port choice. There is no HDMI, there is no USB Sort-A, and there is no full-sized SD card reader to talk of. That being mentioned, the Go 2 does have the necessities, together with a USB-C port, a Floor Join port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card reader.
All in all, it is a fairly sturdy choice, particularly when you think about that Floor Join, the headphone jack, and microSD compatibility have all been sundown from Floor Professional fashions for fairly a while now. I do want the Go 2 featured a second USB-C port on its different facet for some further charging and peripheral connectivity prowess, however even a single Sort-C port is not dangerous when supplemented by Floor Join for topping up on battery.
It retains getting higher
Microsoft is constant to optimize Home windows 11
Being a full-blown PC, the Floor Go 2 has come a good distance software program sensible. Initially delivery with Home windows 10 in its gimped S mode version, the pill now runs unadulterated Home windows 11 as of 2021. Regardless of being an older laptop, it manages to attain Home windows 11 compatibility with things like Safe Boot and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 on board.
One of the best half in regards to the Go 2 working Home windows 11 is that it is an working system actively being labored on by Microsoft. This, after all, signifies that new options and safety enhancements are frequently rolled out to the gadget, which is a pleasant plus. Moreover, with Microsoft’s K2 effort to enhance Home windows 11 efficiency underway, the 8GB variant of RAM Floor Go 2 mannequin ought to carry out higher than ever within the very close to future.
