UK police apologise to parliament after admitting a significant and controversial coverage choice was based mostly on AI making stuff up

The Chief Constable of West Midlands Police in the UK has apologised to members of parliament after admitting {that a} main policing choice had been made “as results of a use of Microsoft Co Pilot [sic]”.

The choice was taken in November 2025 to ban followers from the Israeli crew Maccabi Tel Aviv from attending a Europa League match towards the Birmingham-based crew Aston Villa. It was massively controversial on the time, with even Prime Minister Keir Starmer questioning the transfer and calling it “improper”, and MPs have continued digging into why it was made.
